Hiawatha Ave Pipestone, MN 56164 Phone: 507-825-6740 Fax: 507-825-6741 Email: joyce.steinhoff@co.pipestone.mn.us The Auditor Office is part of the administrative branch of County government and interacts with the county board of commissioners, county departments, county residents, the vendors, local governments, state and federal agencies, school districts, and special districts. The County Auditor, an elected official, serves as a County Financial Officer, Property Tax Administrator, and Election Administrator. The Auditor is also a member, by statute, of the county board of equalization, the county canvassing committee, and sits on various other committees, councils, and boards, as directed by the board of commissioners. Some of the functions of this department include: County Budgets, Payroll and Annual Financial Statement: Issues payment for County department obligations, collects all county revenues, prepares monthly reports and the annual financial statement. Assist the County Coordinator with County Budgets. Property Taxes: Calculates rates and prepares tax information for the “Truth in Taxation” notices and tax statements. Bills for all property taxes and county special assessments. Keeps records of all taxing district levies (towns, cities, schools, special taxing districts, etc.) tax collections of delinquent taxes. Places delinquent property tax parcels into judgment, administers forfeiture proceedings and sales according to statute. Deed Transfers: Maintain/Process transfer of parcels in Auditor Transfer Book and Tax Books according to Statute. Process split transactions. Special Assessments: Files special assessments against benefited landowners on county drainage ditches for the purpose of funding repairs and maintenance costs. Attach special assessments for County Solid Waste, City assessments, and rural water assessments. County Liquor, Beer, Wine, Auctioneer, Transient Merchant, etc. Issues County Liquor Licenses through the Minnesota Liquor Control Commission and issues other miscellaneous licenses.
