The Recorder also processes requests for any copies of documents or certified copies of vital records. We also handle your simple research requests or assist you with more difficult research. The Pipestone County Recorder is the custodian of all legal records pertaining to the following areas: Birth Certificates Death Certificate Marriage Application and License Notary Public Ordination Military Discharges PASSPORT SERVICES NOTICE: The Pipestone County Recorder's Office will NO LONGER accept passport applications as of May 1, 2011 or have jurisdiction to respond to inquiries regarding passport services. The decision to terminate the designation as a passport acceptance facility was made due to new requirements by the US Department of State. The Recorder's Office isn't able to meet the requirements to separate duties of staff between passport acceptance agents and vital statistic deputy registrars who work with birth and death records. To separate duties would mean certain staff act as passport acceptance agents and other staff act as vital statistic deputy registrars. The Recorder's Office doesn't have enough staff to ensure customer service availability in either area when duties are separated. The US Department of State and Homeland Security have concerns about identity fraud. These federal agencies see a conflict between the two services and believe they need to minimize opportunity for fraud by their passport agents. |
